If on considering Moscow, images of
perestroika, mafia, vodka swilling policemen and dancing
bears come to mind, you could be forgiven as all of
these images do actually exist, to an extent, but
no more so than in your own country – scratch
the dancing bears image and consider the mystery and
the enigma which makes Moscow what it is.
It is a city of contradictions. The
scent of change fills the air in this vibrant, eclectic,
and more often than not, breathtaking city. Many people
actually experience a change in themselves when they
slide into the pace of life here – values change
and perspectives alter, especially if you have limited
past travels to safe westernized vacation slots and
built your sense of existence into a frame work of
investments, mortgages and a dependence on affirmed
laws to guide your life. These safety nets have only
recently begun to emerge in Russia – hence the
Russian’s ability ‘seize the day in a
literal sense.’
